When The Gant opened its doors in 1973, a daily adult lift ticket to ski in Aspen cost just $5. My, how times have changed! (A  daily lift ticket now costs upwards of $200 when not purchased in advance.)

What hasn’t changed in 50 years? The Gant continues to offer comfortable condominium-style accommodations for visitors who appreciate its location in a quiet neighborhood in the shadow of Aspen Mountain.

Don’t be fooled by The Gant’s old-school condo building exterior. I was pleasantly surprised by just how upscale and stylish our accommodations were when I spent the night in Aspen for a quick local getaway. Here’s the scoop.

Rooms at The Gant

The Gant is composed of 140 individually owned and decorated units, each with a separate entrance, full kitchen, wood-burning fireplace, and balcony or patio. The one- to four-bedroom condominiums are categorized Premier, Deluxe, or Standard, depending on whether the decor has been recently updated (and to what extent).

My husband and I had plenty of room to spread out in a two-bedroom, two-bath Premier condominium decorated in soft greys and browns with some rustic touches, like rough wood paneling behind the king bed and a stone corner fireplace in the living room.

The full-size kitchen had spacious counters, a dishwasher, huge fridge, microwave, blender, toaster, and coffeemaker. Cabinets were stocked with all the dishware and cookware you’d need to make a meal. There was also an L-shaped couch, dining table for six, and washer and dryer — super helpful for long-term stays. I loved how homey our accommodations felt.

Amenities and Activities at The Gant

On arrival, my husband and I made a beeline to one of the three outdoor hot tubs on the property. There are also two heated swimming pools, tennis and pickleball courts, and a fitness center.

In fact, The Gant is ideally located for enjoying area recreational activities: It’s less than a half-mile walk to the rugged, switchback-filled Ute Trail, popular among local avid hikers and trail runners. Less than a half-mile in the other direction is the base of the gondola that whisks skiers and boarders up Aspen Mountain.

One nice perk of staying at The Gant is on-demand access to a fleet of Gant Vans that can shuttle guests anywhere they want in town from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Airport pick-ups and drop-offs are also included in the room rate.

Dining at The Gant

Pepperjack’s is the name of The Gant’s on-site café serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At the casual spot with outdoor seating, I had tasty chorizo breakfast tacos one morning. My husband and I also enjoyed happy hour drinks on the rooftop patio (open seasonally). A cozy area inside with a fireplace is for dining and drinking in cooler weather.

The Bottom Line

Aspen has multiple condominium lodging options (condos are also quite popular in nearby Snowmass). But The Gant stands out with its on-site restaurant and bar, extended-hours shuttle service, full-service front desk, and quiet location on the east end of Aspen.

The spacious multi-bedroom accommodations are ideal for families or couples traveling together. Residential amenities, including full kitchens and washer/dryers, can make lengthy stays more comfortable.

Tiered pricing appeals to those on a budget as well as travelers looking for a more luxurious stay. Rates vary seasonally and depend on whether you’re interested in booking a Standard, Deluxe, or Premier condominium.

Rates in the early winter season start as low as $300 a night. Two-night minimum stays are common when the ski lifts are open. Also keep an eye on special 50th Anniversary packages and celebrations. You can also compare rates and book your stay through Priceline or other online booking sites.
