entrance, Movenpick Geneva

Less than a five-minute drive from the airport, the Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva is an ideal location for travelers on the go. But this property isn’t simply an airport hotel. A quick walk to public transportation, its location makes exploring Geneva easy. And when you finally call it a day, you’ll sleep well thanks to comfy rooms, and menus that include everything from pillows to Swiss ice cream.

The Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva has 350 rooms and suites spread across 14 floors. I stayed in a Deluxe Room located on the ninth floor. Even with two queen beds, the room still felt spacious. To help insure guests sleep well, the hotel offers a pillow menu with nearly a half-dozen options ranging from latex and organic cotton, to eucalyptus and anti-allergy pillows. A nightstand in between the beds offers easy access to electrical plugs.

Sound-proof windows running the length of the room provide an enjoyable amount of natural light during the day, but black-out curtains do their job when sleeping is the objective. A long desk running the width of the room, offers plenty of space to work or spread out travel gear and gadgets.

Along with a DēLonghi coffee machine, an electric tea kettle, and tea making supplies are provided. Though mostly filled with minibar items, there’s some room available for guest use in the room’s small refrigerator.

Bathroom space is tight with little room to move between the single-sink vanity, toilet and shower/bathtub combination. Body lotion and conditioner still come in small, disposable, plastic bottles, but shampoo is provided in large, refillable containers.

The property offers a number of onsite dining options. Gate 20 Bar & Lounge offers drinks, and dishes ranging from burgers to veal and pasta. Kamome features sushi and live teppanyaki cooking. The Mövenpick Restaurant is the main eatery, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Swiss dishes including beef tartar and Zurich-style beef are the restaurant’s specialty.

tea selection offered at breakfast buffet, Movenpick Geneva

Breakfast is served buffet style with an assortment of offerings including bacon, crepes, potatoes, cooked to order eggs, cheese, fruits, and pastries, in addition to coffee, hot cocoa, and juice. Tea drinkers will appreciate the more than a dozen options, presented alongside fresh mint and ginger. Breakfast costs $38 Monday through Friday, and $28 on weekends.

In-room dining is also available 24/7. Servings of Mövenpick ice cream are available round-the-clock from the front desk.

Sky Gym at Movenpick Geneva

The Sky Gym offers extra inspiration to stay fit. Located on the 14th floor, you can get in your daily workout with a view of the Geneva Airport. The fitness center and sauna are open daily from 6am to midnight.

All hotel accommodations in Geneva include a public transportation pass that allows visitors to use trams, buses, and boats (Mouettes) on Lake Geneva. (Be sure to have it with you at all times. Fines are steep for those caught traveling without a ticket.) The Blandonnet tram stop is less than a 10-minute walk from Movenpick Hotel. The Cornavin train station and Geneva’s city center can be reached in 10 to 15 minutes, making for an easy trip to see popular attractions including the Jet d’Eau fountain, (water jet) the Flower Clock, and St. Peter’s Cathedral.

Complimentary shuttles run to the airport every 20 to 30 minutes. There is also direct access from the hotel to the gaming tables and slot machines at Casino du Lac, though it would be easy to stay and never realize the casino is there.

The room rate during my stay was $288 including breakfast. Wi-Fi is complimentary. Underground parking is available for $20. Make your reservation directly on the hotel website or try Hotels.com to see if you can get a better rate.
