From hiking and kayaking, to hot air ballooning and spring training games under the warm Arizona sun, there’s an overabundance of reasons to get a trip to Scottsdale on the calendar. Luckily, there’s also a great selection of hotels and resorts to choose from when putting together a weekend of desert fun. But if it’s a sense of desert immersion you seek, Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North delivers.

Set in the high Sonoran Desert, in the foothills of Pinnacle Peak, the property knows how to showcase its primo location. Utilizing adobe-style architecture, the Four Seasons’ 210 casita guest rooms and suites blend into the cactus studded landscape that surrounds it. Close to 30 separate casita buildings, between two- and three-stories each, are connected by pathways that make wandering both relaxing and adventurous. Depending on the time of day guests may spy a curious jackrabbit or a charm of busy hummingbirds.

I stayed in a Premier Casita Room, in building number seven. It was an ideal location, less than a 5-minute walk from the lobby, restaurants, and pool area. The room was expectedly spacious with an understated, neutral color palate. Along with a king size bed there was a small sofa with pullout bed, making the room a good fit for parents traveling with a child in tow.

A small circular table serves a multitude of needs providing a desk for those that might need to work during their stay, as a casual spot to have a quick bite, or simply a place to drop those odds and ends that tend to fill our pockets when traveling. I underestimated how much I would use and enjoy the gas fireplace that warmed up the room with the touch of a button.

The bathroom featured a tub, walk-in shower with a wand and rainfall shower head, and large double sink vanity. Bath products are unfortunately still provided in single-use plastic bottles. I’m hopeful a more eco-friendly offering could become available in the future.

Without doubt, my favorite part of the room was the private patio. With cushy seating, it was a fantastic spot to take in the desert views and spot birds. If bird watching and cactus spotting isn’t your thing, there’s also a television to make lingering easy.

Amenities abound throughout the 40-acre property. In addition to the main pool, there’s a lower pool for adult resort guests only. Active guests can choose from a pair of tennis courts, or one of four pickleball courts. The fitness center includes a dedicated movement studio in addition to a variety of equipment, including Peloton stationary bikes.

Tee times can be arranged at a pair of nearby golf courses; a complimentary shuttle is provided for golfers. And thanks to a partnership with adventure operator REI Co-op, hotel guests can easily book desert adventures the likes of hiking, biking and even stand-up paddleboarding.

The spa offers 14 treatment rooms and a range of services including desert-inspired pampering sessions as well as offerings for kids.

The resort’s complimentary Kids for All Seasons program offers a variety of activities to entertain guests age 5 -12.

The Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North is 30 miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. If relying on car services like Uber and Lyft, be sure to allow extra time. The property’s remote location can sometimes increase wait times for a car.

Rates for a Premier King Casita Room start at $930. There is also an additional daily $47 resort fee.  You can also check Expedia, Hotels.com or your favorite hotel booking site to see if you can find a better rate there.
