Years in the making, the highly-anticipated Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley made its Northern California debut in fall of 2021. Located in the charming and humble town of Calistoga, if sleeping among grapevines is your goal, the resort is an excellent place to call home when in wine country.
The only Napa Valley resort set within a working winery, the resort’s 85 guestrooms and 20 private residences are surrounded by Elusa Winery’s almost five acres of organic vineyards. Golf carts are used to deliver guests to their room after check-in, but once you get the lay of the land, the property is easy to explore on foot.
Guestrooms are located in two-story, freestanding villas. Design and amenities are consistent throughout. My room had a farmhouse-chic feel, a gas fireplace, wine refrigerator, Nespresso machine, electric tea kettle, and a balcony with vineyards views.
My bathroom was larger than many city hotel rooms I’ve stayed in. The generous double sink vanity provided more than enough room for two, and the toilet was tucked behind a door for privacy. The large soaking tub and huge shower were photo-worthy, located behind a glass wall at the far end of the bathroom.
Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley has all of the amenities we’ve come to expect from the luxury brand. There are two pools — one for adults and one for families. The Kids For All Seasons program is located steps from the family pool and could ultimately be a huge draw for parents visiting wine country with young kids in tow. The property is the only resort in Napa Valley to offer dedicated kids programming.
Located near the hotel lobby, Spa Talisa offers a variety of treatments including massages, facials, and a nail bar. Guests that stick to their workout regimen and set aside time to spend in the 24-hour fitness center are rewarded with a vineyard view.
For oenophiles, a highlight of a stay here is a tour and tasting at Elusa Winery. Well-known winemaker (and Calistoga resident) Thomas Rivers Brown oversees the brand. Tastings paired with local cheeses are by appointment and start at $100.
The fine-dining component of TRUSS restaurant + Bar is reportedly opening soon. The Living Room at TRUSS offers all day indoor and outdoor dining. Expect everything from huevos rancheros to cured duck breast along with wine, beer, and cocktails. You’ll find Elusa wines available for purchase, along with some 250 other labels. Campo Poolside offers a more casual experience with an Oaxacan flair.
The restaurants, shops and tasting rooms that call downtown Calistoga home can be reached in about 20 minutes by foot, or five minutes by car. Expect a bit more than half-hour’s drive to get to Napa in the south, and 40-minutes to make it to Healdsburg, in neighboring Sonoma County wine country.
The city of Calistoga does not allow chain businesses, so locally the property is sometimes called The Resort at 400 Silverado Trail. Rates start at $1,200. You can compare rates at Booking.com or your favorite hotel booking site.
